Sibley: A Volcano, A Labyrinth, & Gorgeous Views

Did you know there’s a volcano right here in the San Francisco East Bay?  Yep, Round Top, a volcano so long extinct that it’s now lying on its side, is located in Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve in the Berkeley Hills.  On Sunday, I enjoyed a fun Mother’s Day hike around the Round Top Loop Trail with my husband and son.  For being such a short hike (less than two miles), the trail has some unique features, making this a fun one for families.

Interested in going?  The staging area for Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve is located at 6800 Skyline Boulevard.   Entry is free, and the lot has plenty of parking.  For directions, trail map, etc., please visit the website.. www.ebparks.org/parks/sibley.htm .  If you’re interested in learning about the geology of the region, check out the visitor center at the trailhead.  In addition to the educational displays, you can also pick up a brochure with a self-guided trail map featuring geologic highlights.
