From the Window: Hawk

I saw this beautiful hawk land on one of the oak trees behind our home a few days ago.  I frequently see them soaring in the sky or perched on telephone poles, and have even had one attack the birds at our feeder, but I rarely see them land in the trees.  Now, maybe one of these days, I’ll finally see the Great Horned Owl I hear every evening.

  1. We live very close to a large golf course and because of proximity have our share of hawks. I get excited every time one in is our yard, but shudder a bit when they swoop in and attack the bird feeders. That’s a hard one for me! I hope you do get to see your horned owl. Wouldn’t that be exciting?

    1. We used to see a great-horned owl on our evening post-dinner walks around the neighborhood. If we timed it right, we’d regularly see her (him?) sitting on one of the rooftops. But that was before I had discovered the fun of photography. Yes, it is hard when predators attack the bird feeder. But it’s also kind of interesting!

  2. Beautiful! I notice you use a watermark in your photos. I haven’t done it on any of mine and was curious on the advantages. I assume if someone wants to steal your picture, they can just crop it out? However by having it there when it is shared on Facebook or other sites then people know who it is by? I’m trying to decide if I should be including this. What software or app do you use to get the watermark on? I hope I didn’t screw up by not doing this! I already have 7000 pics in my blog! 🙂

    1. I’ve wondered the same thing, that if someone really wanted to take a picture, they could crop my watermark out. But, then, I just don’t know how that works. I figure it’s marketing, if nothing else. I’m not a professional photographer. I’m not earning an income from my photography, so I don’t really have anything to lose. I’ve been using Picasa for years, and I love it. It’s a free photo manipulation program, and it’s super easy to add the watermark. 7000 pics!! I can see how it would add up over a few years, with the beautiful photos you post daily. 🙂

      1. Thanks Linda! I appreciate your help. I just get confused sometimes because people ask me why I am not watermarking but I am just take photos for fun because I love to! 🙂 I think the marketing idea is good though. Especially for Facebook shares.
I should give Picassa a whirl! I have Lightroom which I love but am always willing to try more photography programs. Another absolute favorite is Snapseed. I use it a lot to make my photos more dramatic as I just adore the way it looks.
Anyway, thanks again for your help! I love all your bird pics. I can’t wait until our bald eagles show up again here! We also get owls too! 🙂 Nicole
