Hike: Mono Pass, Yosemite

This is another hike within Yosemite National Park that we enjoy.  Due to the distance (7.5 miles out-and-back), this is the first time we’ve tried it with our son.  We were afraid it might be a bit long for him, but, since the elevation gain on this hike is relatively mild, we decided to give it a try.  We’re glad we did!  Our son led the hike, keeping a quick, steady pace most of the way, with no complaints (despite the high altitude of this trail… at or above 10,000 ft).  This hike has it all… the trail meanders through woods and wildflower-filled meadows and provides gorgeous views of high-alpine lakes and the surrounding mountains.  A fun added feature are the old mining cottages that can be found along the trail.  You’ll find the trailhead on Tioga Road (Hwy 120), near the eastern park entrance. Here’s a nice description of the hike… Mono Pass Hiking Guide.

Great photos! The contrast in size between you son and these huge landscapes is so striking.

    1. Thanks, Deb! There’s nothing like being surrounded by mountains or the ocean to remind us of just how small we really are.

    1. John Muir was an incredible man… we have so much to thank him for! Without him, many of these incredible, gorgeous places simple wouldn’t exist anymore. At least, not in their protected state.

I love the Mono Pass trail. We’re taking the grand kids up to the high country next week. I am going to try and get them out on this trail.
