See Jane Run!

See-Jane-Run-logoI’m excited to announce that I’ve been selected to be a See Jane Run Ambassador!  I realize I don’t write about it much, but in addition to getting out for my weekly hikes and outdoor play with my son, I also run a couple times each week.  I run with friends on Wednesday mornings and get out on the weekends for solo runs.  Sometimes I run simply (to try) to keep up with my five-year-old son while he’s riding his bike.  I’m not a distance runner… I’m perfectly happy with my 3 mile (or 5K) jaunts.  Some mornings I head out for a longer trail run / hike combination.  Occasionally, I’ll enter a 10K trail running event simply to mix things up and give me something to train for.  I am a very casual runner.  Running to me is about feeling good, keeping healthy, friendship, and the outdoors.

So, what is See Jane Run?  It’s an athletic clothing store and website, but it’s also much more.  I absolutely love their manifesto…

This is not a running club or organization tailored only to the super-fit or the ultra-competitive.  See Jane Run is about sisterhood, about accomplishing goals, perhaps more than you dreamed you possible could, and it’s about having fun.  If you’ve been considering entering a 5K or Half Marathon event, but have been afraid to do so (for whatever reason), beginning with a See Jane Run event is the low-stress, fun way to go.

The See Jane Run Women’s Marathon and 5K Race Series has four events coming up in 2013…

  • June 8th, Alameda, California
  • June 22nd, Boise, Idaho
  • July 14th, Seattle, Washington
  • September 14th, Wichita, Kansas

I’ll be participating in the Alameda 5K event.  It’s the perfect distance and time for me to get back into the running swing of things.  I’m coming off a calf injury, and this looks like a super-fun way to get my running strength back. For more information about the run series, check out the See Jane Run website… www.seejanerun.com/t-See-Jane-Run-Half.aspx.

In the coming months, don’t be surprised if you begin to see a few posts about running.  Most likely, I’ll be sharing the things I see while I’m on a run, as I do with my hikes and other outdoor excursions.  But I’ll also showcase my favorite places in the area to run and highlight the accessories I love the best.  Stay tuned!

  2. Fantastic! How wonderful to have this opportunity and it would be nice to hear more about your running. I follow another runner about my age who started running seriously for the first time only a couple of years ago. She’s now run a couple of half marathons and is increasing her practice to perhaps run in Boston next year. I’m not much of a runner, but I’m a very good cheer leader. 🙂
