Butterfly: Western Tiger Swallowtail

My brother and his wife celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this weekend with a lovely party in their backyard.  This gorgeous butterfly blessed the occasion with a fly through and settled on a flower just long enough to allow me to capture a photograph.

  1. We have the eastern tiger swallowtail which is pretty similar. I only see it a few times per year, unfortunately .

    1. I don’t see these often, either, and this is the first one I’ve seen this year. They are such beautiful butterflies!

  2. Ah, lovely butterfly – I can’t get over how perfect its wings are, not raggedy at all as a lot of the white butterflies I’m seeing here in New Zealand seem to be – makes for a perfect picture! And nice that its visit also coincided with such a special occasion, and that you were on hand to take the photo 🙂

    1. Isn’t it a pretty butterfly? It’s the first one of these I’ve seen this year, and I don’t see them often. I, too, mostly see white ones (cabbage whites), though I haven’t seen many yet this year!
