Take a Trash Collecting Walk

To celebrate Earth Day today, my son asked if we could walk around our neighborhood and collect trash. He’s been totally into this activity since last summer, when he earned his Junior Ranger badge on one of our visits to Yosemite. The ranger made a big point about continuing to be a ranger after we returned home from our visit to the park, and that the best way to do so would be to pick up trash around our neighborhoods and parks whenever we see it. My son took this message to heart. He loves cleaning up the neighborhood, and I think it’s adorable that he always has to wear his Junior Ranger badge while doing so.Β  I also think doing our little bit to help clean up the planet, as locally as we can, is one of the best gifts we can give our planet.

This is a great idea for the earth day. I wish I had read this earlier and we could do it on the earth day too, but of course there is trash on the street every day, so we will definitely do it at some point. Thank your son for the idea. πŸ™‚

I’ll pass on your thanks to him! And, yes, it’s something we do year round, not just on Earth Day. He also likes to pick up the trash we find on trails and in parks, so I have to remember to always carry a baggy of some sort, just in case.

What a great thing to do for you community and that he get’s pleasure out of helping the neighborhood. I also have to say that is one sweet looking badge! Tell the little man that I wish half the adults had the same sense of responsibility. Good work guys.
