Book Recommendation: Best Hikes with Kids, San Francisco Bay Area

If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area (or plan to visit) and you have kids and enjoy hiking, you should have Laure Latham‘s (aka Frog Mom) book, Best Hikes with Kids, San Francisco Bay Area, in your personal library.  When this book first came out last year, I checked it out from the library.  After only a few days, I realized I had to own it.  The book is filled with tons of hikes in and around the greater Bay Area and includes great tips for hiking with kids.  I own quite a few hiking books, and this one is the best.  I would even recommend it for people without kids who like to take shorter hikes than the other hiking books typically recommend.

The book is broken down into sections by county (with 6-12 hikes/county with super detailed information), including:

  • San Francisco County
  • San Mateo County
  • Alameda County
  • Contra Costa County
  • Marin County
  • Sonoma County
  • Napa County
  • Santa Clara County
  • Santa Cruz County
  • Solano County

Are you new to hiking and perhaps feel a bit hesitant to get out there with your kids?  The book also offers great tips for getting out there with your kids, including trail safety information, what to pack, how to dress, and tons of other great info.

By the way, I receive nothing for endorsing this book.  I simply want to pass along this awesome resource.

  1. Check out Golden Gate Trailblazer, the outdoor Bible for SF and Marin. It has a special section for adventures with kids, including hikes.

  2. Nice! I don’t live in the area (I SURE WISH I DID), but half of my family lives in Marin… Gonna forward this to my cousin with his young’uns! 🙂
